The UHD38 hit the market in March 2021. It’s a slightly more advanced version of the UHD30. You get a brighter picture and a noticeably faster latency speed.

Image Quality

With true 4K resolution, you get 8.3 million pixels per frame for astonishingly crisp, clear images. Details are defined without any fuzzy edges, even if you leave the lights on. A 4,000 lumens rating ensures pictures are sharp and clear regardless of any ambient lighting.

Along with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the UHD38 also comes with Dynamic Black and UltraDetail technology. Images are sharper with more texture, so you see all of the small nuances.

An 8-segmented color wheel produces accurate colors across the spectrum. You also have the advantage of HLG and HDR10 support, along with tone mapping that optimizes each frame for an immersive viewing experience.

Ease of Installation and Set-Up

The UHD38 is almost a plug-and-play projector. All you need to do is align the onscreen images. The standard throw projector is designed for table or ceiling mounting, and at 9.25lbs it’s light enough to easily move around. When you’re not gaming, take the projector outside for movie night.

Digital keystone correction, along with manual 1.1x zoom and focus make it easy to fine-tune image placement. It also gives you a flexible installation. You don’t need to have the projector lens perfectly centered with the screen.

Pros

  • 4K resolution
  • Flexible installation
  • High lumens rating
  • Dynamic contrast
  • Low input lag

Cons

  • Sound quality is only adequate from the 10-watt built-in speakers
  • The long throw distance makes the projector ill-suited for use in smaller spaces

Gaming Quality

Even though image quality is exceptional, where the UHD38 shines is with its Enhanced Gaming Mode. Latency speeds drop from 16ms to a fast 4.2ms. You get lag-free gaming on RPGs and first-person shooter games.

There is a minor downside, turning on the gaming mode drops the resolution to full HD. Even though it’s not 4K, you still get bright, detailed images. Add in the 240Hz refresh rate, and you get smooth frame-by-frame action.

Connectivity

Optoma UHD38

It doesn’t matter how great the picture quality is if you can’t connect your external components. No one wants to constantly unplug a device to connect another one.

The UHD38 has dual HDMI ports, along with USB power and service inputs. You also get audio ports and an optical input. You can connect gaming consoles, laptops, DVD players, and more without having to unplug another device.

Consumer Impressions

Gamers appreciate the fast refresh rate and low latency speeds, though they wish it didn’t cost them the 4K resolution. Other consumers commented on the dynamic contrast, along with high lumens ratings. Some users have noted that the HDR support is not reliable, but it may be due to using the wrong cable.

Conclusion

The Optoma UHD38 is marketed as a gaming projector, and it lives up to the hype. You get an amazingly fast refresh rate, and a latency speed gamers won’t complain about. It also produces bright, vivid images in 4K resolution, ensuring it’s also a good fit for movie lovers.

Add in the mid-range price, and the UHD38 is a 4K projector you want to consider (>>> Check on ProjectorScreen).
