Installation

If you need plenty of flexibility when it comes to installation, the Optoma UHD delivers. With a throw ratio of 1.39 – 2.22:1, you don’t have to sit up close to see images on the screen in stunning detail.

Keystone correction and vertical lens shift, along with 1.6x zoom ensure that you’ll be able to see images, even from a distance. You can mount the projector on the ceiling or a table in the back of the room. However, on some shelves and tables, you may need to make a few adjustments to ensure the picture is centered.

Picture Quality

The Optoma UHD60 does beat out it’s similarly priced competitors when it comes to lumens and contrast. With a 3,000 lumen rating and contrast of 1,000,000:1 images are bright and clear.

Instead of using the standard 0.47” chipset. This projector uses a 0.66” one. While this might sound impressive, there aren’t any noticeable differences in picture quality. The larger chip does let engineers design the projector to allow for higher light output, along with higher contrast but this can also affect picture quality.

One problem with picture quality occurs when the projector is set to “Bright mode”. At 3,000 lumens images can have a distracting greenish tint. If you don’t mind the green hues, this won’t be a problem. Otherwise, you might want to avoid setting the projector on its brightest setting.

Pros

  • High contrast level
  • Virtually silent fan
  • Flexible installation
  • Displays deep blacks and crisp whites
  • Comes with inputs for most media devices

Cons

  • The lens can be difficult to center
  • The high bright mode can display a greenish tint
  • Lacks precise focusing abilities

Reliability

It is a sturdy projector that can handle normal wear and tear, though you still want to follow the simple care instructions. These include protecting the projector lens from scratches and ensuring the fan is circulating airflow to prevent over-heating.

When it comes to the projector’s lamp, you’ll have an estimated 15,000 hours before you have to change the bulb. If you use the projector every day for four hours, it’ll be ten years before the light needs to be replaced.

Optoma also backs its UHD60 projector with a limited warranty. Terms and conditions do apply.

The Optoma UHD60 projector isn’t complicated to use. Simply connect the project to your media device and settle down to enjoy your entertainment. There are plenty of inputs so you can watch movies, play games in 4K color, and even connect your PC or Mac. It’s also HDR compatible. Whites are brighter and blacks deeper, regardless of what game you working your way through.

There isn’t a lot to complain about the Optoma UHD60’s performance. The high contrast ensures colors are sharp and clear. Gamers will appreciate this when they’re on certain levels and the wide color gamut will impress almost any movie buff. It also has a 240Hz refresh rate.

Customer Impressions

The Optoma UHD60 is a little larger than some other home projectors but this shouldn’t be surprising since the specifications are clearly listed. While the 4K image quality is exceptional, it’s not what makes the projector stand out.

It’s the HDR feature that ensures games and movies are sharp, clear, and with plenty of contrast. This is especially noticeable on darker colors.

While the projector does need to be installed so it’s centrally aligned with the screen and this can take some time. Overall, for its price, the Optoma UHD60 is worth the money.

Conclusion

Even though this isn’t a perfect projector, there isn’t a lot to complain about for the price >>> Check current price on Amazon. Along with 4K capabilities, it also comes with a fast refresh rate that gamers will appreciate. There’s also nothing to complain about its contrast.

While you probably won’t want to set the projector on its brightest mode, this doesn’t mean that images will appear dark. You will still be able to clearly see everything, only without the slight green tint.

If you are in the market for an affordable 4K projector, the Optoma UHD60 is worth taking a look at.
