There’s a lot to like about the ZH406, but it also has a few downsides. Here’s everything you need to know about the laser projector.

Image Quality

You don’t have to find a dark room to use the projector. The 4,500 lumens rating is more than enough to handle most ambient light. Whether you’re watching a movie at home or showing graphs and charts to co-workers, on-screen images are sharp, bright, and detailed.

Along with HD resolution, the projector also boasts a 4K input. You can upgrade compatible content for richer colors and more defined definition. Add in both HDR10 and HLG support, and you won’t have any complaints about image quality. With a 300,000:1 contrast ratio, you also get deep blacks and bright whites.

Ease of Installation

Boasting a compact size and relatively lightweight design, the ZH406 is designed for easy portability. At 10lbs, you don’t want to carry it far, but it is easy to install in minutes. Even faster if you can place the projector in front of the screen. In this case, turn it on and you’re ready to start your presentation.

You will need 10’ or more for 100” images. It’s not a short-throw projector. Digital zoom and keystone correction make centering onscreen images quick and easy. You can also use the handy geometric correction function for a faster set up. When you need to fine-tune the alignment, you have a +16 vertical lens shift, along with manual focus and zoom.

Pros

  • 4-corner image adjustment
  • Bright laser lamp
  • 4K compatible
  • Compact size
  • Multiple ports

Cons

  • The small speakers are difficult to hear, especially when the projector is ceiling-mounted

Ease of Use

The ZH406 from Optoma is designed more for classrooms and boardrooms than home movie night. It does not come with streaming apps or voice control. What you do get is both blackboard mode, along with a laser pointer. The projector also comes with closed captioning capabilities. It’s everything you need to put on a presentation you’re proud of.

Connections

There’s very little you can’t connect to the laser projector. Along with multiple HDMI ports, there are also audio in and outputs. The 15-watt internal speakers are adequate, but sometimes you need more sound. You also find both USB and VGA ports so you can connect your compatible phone. You can stream content from your connected devices to the projector and then onto the screen.

Consumer Impressions

Its compact size and flexible installation are two aspects consumers appreciate about the ZH406. They also like the bright, clear onscreen images during daytime use. The included remote makes it easy to control the projector, though some consumers have mentioned they wished it came with Amazon Alexa or Goggle Assist. They also note that the speakers aren’t powerful enough to produce quality sound.

Conclusion

The Optoma ZH406 is a compact laser projector capable of producing bright images in ambient light. Images are detailed and colors bright. It’s easy to install and operate. It also comes with a few extra features designed to enhance your presentations. (>>> Check on ProjectorScreen)
